Joseph "Jellybean" Bryant, the father of the late NBA great Kobe Bryant, has died at the age of 69, according to his alma mater, La Salle University. Bryant was a former professional basketball player who played for three NBA teams over his career.
Bryant's death was confirmed by La Salle University's athletics department, which released a statement expressing condolences to the Bryant family. "The La Salle University community is deeply saddened by the passing of Joseph 'Jellybean' Bryant, the father of the late NBA star Kobe Bryant," the statement said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bryant family during this difficult time."
Bryant played eight seasons in the NBA, from 1975 to 1983, where he averaged 8.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. He was a 6-foot-9 forward who was known for his athleticism and rebounding ability. Bryant was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the 1975 NBA Draft, and he went on to play for the San Diego Clippers and Houston Rockets.
