Joe Bryant, the father of late NBA legend Kobe Bryant, has died, according to an official statement from La Salle University. The elder Bryant had a successful college basketball career at La Salle, where he led the team to the Final Four in 1970. He went on to play eight seasons in the NBA.
Kobe's Mentor and Coach
Joe Bryant was not only a father to Kobe but also his mentor and coach. Kobe often credited his father for teaching him the fundamentals of the game and instilling in him a strong work ethic. In a 2010 interview with ESPN, Kobe said, "My father was a great basketball mind. He taught me the game from a young age and was always there for me."
Cause of Death
The cause of Joe Bryant's death has not yet been released. He was 67 years old.
