LA to Host 2028 Summer Olympics
Los Angeles Selected for 2028 Summer Olympics
City's Bid Relies on Existing Venues
In a move reminiscent of the 1984 Summer Olympics, the 2028 Summer Olympics will be hosted in a majority of venues around Greater Los Angeles. The city's bid relied heavily on utilizing existing infrastructure, including the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, which is set to make history as the only stadium to host Track and Field competitions in three Olympic Games.
The decision to award Los Angeles the 2028 Games was made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on September 13, 2017, in Lima, Peru. Los Angeles was one of five cities that had bid for the Games, along with Paris, Rome, Budapest, and Hamburg. The other four cities were eliminated from consideration in an earlier round of voting, leaving only Los Angeles and Paris in the running.
The 2028 Summer Olympics will be the third time that Los Angeles has hosted the Games. The city previously hosted the 1932 and 1984 Summer Olympics.
